Burberry’s story began with the \u201csimple\u201d trench coat. It all started in 1856, with the making of jackets of impermeable material in Basingstoke, Hampshire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These jackets were worn by Roald Amundsen on his conquest of the North Pole, and Ernest Shackleton\u2019s expedition across Antarctica, but the real breakthrough occurred when the Burberry house was entrusted with creating military coats during World War II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the global fashion frenzy over the trench coat happened in 1961, when Audrey Hepburn\u2019s character in Breakfast at Tiffany\u2019s flaunted the famous tartan-patterned coat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
