Captivate Him: The Perfumes that Men Find Utterly Attractive

A hand spraying perfume from a translucent blue glass bottle, with the mist of the fragrance visible against a dark blue background.

Can a perfume attract men and attention? Eau yes, it can, and it’s not just us saying this, it’s a science-backed up fact.

Pre rehearsed pickup lines and jokes can only get you so far, but certain perfumery ingredients are going to give your love connection the boost you were hoping for.

Scientific studies show that men go head-over-heels for ultra-feminine perfumes, with floral scents reigning supreme. Jasmine takes the cake (or should we say, bouquet)! This magical bloom not only elevates your mood but also sends desire levels soaring. Feeling a little shy? Roses, the eternal symbol of romance and seduction, will take your confidence levels to new heights.

And if you haven’t heard about tuberose and why it was called the scandalous flower in Victorian England, here are the Cliffs Notes: Victorians, known for their prudishness, believed the tuberose’s perfume held an insidious secret: It was an aphrodisiac, capable of igniting uncontrollable passions. Young women were warned against inhaling its heady fragrance, lest they succumb to spontaneous desire. Harvesting the flower was even considered risqué, as the lingering scent might lure unsuspecting men into indiscretions.

While some dismiss this as Victorian hysteria, the scientific context paints a different picture: Tuberose does contain compounds that may impact hormones.

But the list doesn’t end here.

Fruity notes are another male olfactive must-have, and citrus notes like orange and bergamot will instantly boost his blood flow and create interest. Vanilla always ranks high in the game of seduction thanks to its aphrodisiac-like qualities that capture a man’s attention. Musk’s second-skin aroma, with a seductive woody and earthy scent, is another alluring essential… and you can never go wrong with sandalwood, known to stimulate desire.

  1. Margaret A Staneff says:

Completely disagree with nearly every perfume listed here. In fact, I have tried and rejected many of these..The ones men compliment me most on are Kulfi by L’Aromatica, Turmeric Latte by Lush, Figment by Amouage, More Than Words by Xerjoff and Nirvana Rose by Elizabeth and James. Nirvana Rose gets compliments from both sexes ALL the time.
I have never had ANYTHING I have tried from Juliette Has a Gun ever get a positive reaction. Or Derek Lam either.
Or Michel Germain- they all smell fruity. Men aren’t attracted to fruity florals…maybe raspberry vanillic gourmands but never some cheap smelling fruity floral, that reminds you of nearly every celebrity scent you can buy for 20$ at the drugstore. That’s Michel Germaine in a nutshell. Unless you are a college student on a budget…guys that age don’t really care what you smell like, as long as it isn’t unclean.

    1. saida.Iuldasheva says:

Thanks a bunch, Margaret, for sharing with us and the community! ???????? It’s so true that when it comes to fragrances, it’s all about personal preference. Plus, how a fragrance interacts with your body chemistry makes a big difference. You got us interested in the mentioned scents now ???????? Definitely will be adding them to our wishlist ????

    2. Joan Stevian says:

You should try Cloud from Ariana Grande! It’s so so wonderful! People ask me all the time what
I’m wearing. It lasts all day. Smells clean and not
overpowering. My husband bought me the trio set for Christmas . He knew I wanted it. Forget that this young girl made it. It’s not a Britney Spears ugh perfume. Try it! It’s so subtle and beautiful!

      1. Yesss, we totally agree! Ariana Grande’s perfumes are amazing, and Cloud is definitely one of the best.

    3. Lisa Sweeney says:

I have been stopped soooo many times when I mix my 2 scents together: Jimmy Choo (original) and Lancôme La Vie est belle. Just in one store I was stopped multiple times by men and women. Was definitely a confidence booster and I swear by these scents for life.❤️‍????

      1. Julia Lopatina says:

That combo sounds absolutely divine! ????

  2. Saint Kiwanuka says:

The Kenneth Kole Blush sounds like it smells AH-MAY-ZING!

        1. saida.Iuldasheva says:

          It absolutely does ????????

    2. Stella Grigoryan says:

I don’t agree with a comment above.I used the Dolce, My Burberry and a lot if fruity floral perfumes and git a lot if compliments and even they ask what kind if perfume is it???It depends how the perfume will interact with your body oil…Once I smelled a perfume on my friend, and I like it so much, then I eent to buy for me and I tried it on me,I didn’t want to get it,it was awful smell on me…

  3. Arleen watson says:

Scents react to body oils and all that makes you , you . What smells great on u smells like crap on me. I was looking to see Maison Francis Baracat 540 bc every where I go I am asked “ what are you wearing “. Again it may not smell the same on you.

    1. saida.Iuldasheva says:

That’s why we’re here, Arleen ???????? Scentbird offers you the opportunity to test a fragrance for an entire month and determine if it truly harmonizes with your body chemistry. Besides of getting your scents being delivered right to your doorsteps & having access to 500+ fragrances catalog, you can filter assortment down by your favorite notes, brands & occasions ????

    2. Regina Hall says:

Arleen you nailed it with the Maison Francis Baccarat 540 it’s a unisex parfum that will have you being followed due to the scent.. I’m asked by both men and women what I’m wearing when I wear this. Some has even asked me to show them a picture of it so they can purchase it. The parfum has a strong scent when you apply it but the aroma of it when you walk pass someone is very soft and subtle. It’s VERYYYY SEXYY. I smelled someone in the mall at Neiman Marcus with it on and I followed the scent to ask the individual what they were wearing and I purchased it right then and there and has been wearing it regularly since that day.. Dolce n Gabana Light Blue, chanel no. 5, Mark Jacobs Daisy, Christian Dior Jadore, have all been my signature perfumes for decades. Jadore and Baccarat are my newest editions. However Light Blue will forever be my number one along with Juicy Couture Viva la Juicy.. Baccarat is rather pricey so it has to be worn when I’m going somewhere I want to leave and impact or make a statement without saying a word. I’m a perfume fanatic and I like sweet, subtle, sexy and soft long lasting scents.

      1. Gina Swauger says:

My all time favorite perfume is Ritz by Charles of the Ritz. No longer available. Silver can with burgundy trim. Have never found a replacement. Are you able to recommend a replacement?

        1. jered.enebong@scentbird.com says:

Hey Gina! Depends on your taste. ???? You can tailor your search on our website by fragrance family, occasion, season, and more. Use our “Filters” to refine by brand, notes, bestsellers, and plenty of other options! ????????

        2. Kathy says:

My all-time favorite as well. Still searching for something similar……

    3. Robin says:

The only perfumes I’ve ever had men and women ask me what it was and they were Baccarat Rouge 540 and Juliette Has a Gun Superdose.

      1. saida.Iuldasheva says:

Baccarat Rouge 540 is definitely on our wishlist ???????? But have you tried other scents by Juliette Has a Gun? ???? https://scentbirddev.itcraftlab.com/brand/juliette-has-a-gun

        1. Pamela Bernau says:

These were very informative comments. Thank you. My next selection will be Maison Francis Baccarat 540. I am very intrigued.

          1. Yana S. says:

            Keep us updated! ????

  4. Lorian Petrisko says:

I must say I’ve tried many perfumes in my lifetime thus far. The one I keep going back to because I have had SOOOO many compliments from men is: Carolina Herrera Good Girl (original). I’ve literally had countless men stop to tell me how good I smelled and what is it. Most recently, I had a married man walk past me in a hurry, he stopped dead in his tracks, turned around and walked up to me just to ask what perfume I was wearing because, I quote: “It smells so good I want to get it for my wife.”. In my opinion, Carolina Herrera’s Good Girl is quite literally a heel stopper not just a showstopper!

    1. Yana S. says:

      Copying that ✍????

  5. Lis says:

Jimmy Choo Fever smells really good.

    1. Yana S. says:

      Facts ????

    2. April W says:

Yes it does, it’s one of my top 2 for sure! I love fever!

  6. Karen Scott says:

Do you have anything that smells like organza silk body veil by givenchy?

    1. Yana S. says:

Mmm, you have an exquisite taste! ???? How about Signorina by Salvatore Ferragamo: https://scentbirddev.itcraftlab.com/perfume/salvatore-ferragamo-signorina-56 ????

  7. RUTHIE T. says:

While some people may have their own opinions and leave a comment that they don’t agree with your list…I actually APPRECIATE helpful hints or leads to perfumes that I may have never heard of before or that contain certain oils and scents that I know smell great on my skin. Again, like others here have stated, what smells great on somebody else may smell nothing like that on you. What smells great on MY skin might smell not-so-great on yours. From a personal perspective, I admit, I am absolutely obsessed with pretty, flirty, sweet smelling perfumes but…those don’t smell fruity or flirty on me. Just because I like how it smells (on another person or from the spray cap) doesn’t mean once I wear it and the down dry time including final scent on my skin after hours of wearing it doesn’t “get better”…it just doesn’t work. For me. However the scents that I always avoided and never liked because they smelled so “manly”, pine tree” or “like a piece of wood” and considered not very pretty are actually the scents and perfumes that blend well and settle beautifully with my body chemistry. They are actually the scents that have people coming up to me saying I smell so good, ask what am I wearing and like many other women here (even though it sounds fake) I, too, have been followed just to be asked what I’m wearing because they could still smell my fragrance, it followed me and lingered. Many times I’ve been able to hear people actually “sniffing” right near me LOL! I get told I smell great. That’s great. And, each time, that lets me know my money was well spent and I chose the right scent for me I love to smell great… it’s why we’re all here, right? We all want to smell good We all want to be noticed for our body scent – not our body odor. So, Scentbird, keep on posting your recommendations and allowing people to leave their comments because that’s another place where I’m able to hear about other perfumes that I have never heard of before. And, lastly, just because a perfume cost hundreds of dollars doesn’t mean it’s the BEST smelling perfume out there. There’s been times I bought a perfume on sale and didn’t spend very much but it was the best fragrance I’d ever worn. It smelled great and the compliments were non-stop and daily. Here because I’m tempted to try this subscription service but nervous about receiving a scent I won’t love.

    1. Yana S. says:

Everything we do, we do for you! ???? We have over 600,000 repeated monthly subscribers who love and support our product each and every month. Try for yourself, we promise to send you a replacement for any product that you don’t like! ????????????✊

  8. Pippa says:

I find the same thing happens to me when I put perfume on my skin. It changes its smell. I like it only when I smell it from the bottle. It changes when it is on my skin. I never know what to buy.

    1. Yana S. says:

It’s not an easy task to find a scent that works perfect with your body chemistry. That’s why we offer our service, so you get to date a scent before you decide whether you’re ready to marry it! ????????????

    2. IraqiwifeSwedishlife says:

I was going to say the same thing….that’s what’s great about samples and companies like Scentbird. You can try before you buy. And sometimes once just isn’t enough. I’ve tried small samples before, worn the fragrance that one time, and loved it. Bought the perfume, wore it more than once, and hated it. And vice versa. Scentbirds fragrance trials are really big so you get alot of wear out of them. Then you can definitely see if the fragrance is for you…or not….

      1. Yana S. says:

Smart people use Scentbird! ❤️ Thank you for putting your trust into our service and for being such a loyal customer

  9. Anne Marty says:

Women need to be aware that the perfume. “ANGEL” is awful. It reeks like a “nasty-girl.” For a fact: men hate it. It’s terribly overpowering. Don’t buy it. If you already have it, get rid of it. NOW.

    1. saida.Iuldasheva says:

Thank you for sharing with us and the community, Anne ???? Really sorry to hear that this fragrance didn’t hit a mark for you! No worries, we’ve got over 500 fragrances from luxury and niche brands that will definitely be interesting for you to try out and explore ???? So, if you haven’t done it already, feel free to give us a try at scentbird.com, and don’t forget to apply the code ENJOY30 for a fantastic 30% discount on your first fragrance purchase ????????

    2. BlueeyedSwede says:

I have to 100% agree with the comment left by ANNE MARTY about the perfume “ANGEL”. This fragrance…is…not…good. I have come to believe that all of the positive reviews I have read regarding this fragrance have to be incentivized. I tried this scent once…..ONCE. It was in a mall and luckily it was on my way out the door because I could not get home fast enough to wash the stench from my skin. The words that come to mind when I think of this scent are….SHARP, CLOYING, MALODEROUS, PUTRID and RANK. And I’m being nice. Definitely not a scent to try with a ‘blind buy’. I wouldn’t even register this perfume if I received it as a present. I’m not that mean. Well…maybe a gag gift.

      1. saida.Iuldasheva says:

We appreciate you taking your time and sharing with us ????

    3. Nicole Stolz says:

Hey now, I wore Angel (original) for years, and loved it. I put it on about a year ago, and did not like it anymore, same with Beautiful Estee Lauder, However, I still love how both of them smell on other people.

      I just feel that’s a bold statement!

I don’t agree with you saying Angel is awful. Maybe it just doesn’t go good with your chemicals. Like I said above, our chemicals/pheromones change through the years. I got tons of compliments from Angel and Beautiful by men and women.

And which angel are we speaking about? They make quite a few now. Does anybody know whatever happened to innocent that was my favorite?

      1. Fragrance is such a personal experience! What works for one person might not for another, and that’s part of what makes it so fascinating! Our skin chemistry, memories, and preferences all play a role in how we perceive scent. It’s always interesting to hear different takes, and it’s great to see people sharing their fragrance journeys. Also, for those wondering, (Angel) Innocent by Mugler was a favorite for many and was sadly discontinued, but some dedicated fans still hunt it down!

  10. Virginia Yocham says:

I use Oscar just a light spray over Body Fantasies Fresh White Musk. I got compliments and questions all the time ago it what fragrance I wear.

    1. saida.Iuldasheva says:

Finding a fragrance that works so well with your senses and body chemistry is feeling like no other ???? ???? We’re very happy for you, Virginia!

  11. IraqiwifeSwedishlife says:

I love fragrances of all sorts but I have always leaned towards the gourmand fragrances the most. I have recently been trying new fragrances (thanks to Scentbird! Wink wink). The fragrances that my husband absolutely Looooves on me are “Very Good Girl”, “Lady Million Lucky”, and an Arab perfume called “AFNAN Mirsaal”. But the one he goes the craziest over…is “Burberry Her”. He’s even sprayed it on himself so he can smell me at work. Awwwww…….

    1. saida.Iuldasheva says:

this story hits us right in the feels! ❤️‍???????? Appreciate you sharing with us! We’re all about people trying out scents without burning a hole in their wallets, finding that perfect scent that screams “them” ????

      1. IraqiwifeSwedishlife says:

Hits ME right in the feels too! That’s why I married the man!! ❤️

    2. Robin says:

I found two scents at Marshals that I love Pumpkin Espicee (if I spelled that correctly) and She Said Yes. Beautiful glass bottles $14.99 each and the pumpkin one, had men coming back to ask what it was because it smelled like food in the best way possible. I had forgotten that one in my earlier comment. I found out they were from Anthropologie. Also, my husband loves Jo Malone Scarlet Poppy and Bluebell and Daisy. He absolutely hates Amazing Grace and I love it because it just smells like fresh laundry. He says that it smells gross.

    3. Nicole Stolz says:

      That is so sweet.

  12. Nina Adams Chace says:

Sadly, Amouage discontinued Ubar, which seemed to attract any male within 20 feet from where I was positioned. Castelbajac’s eponymous scent always made an impression, perhaps because it was quite different from more floral based offerings. Recently I have been approached by both men & women when wearing Amouage’s Guidance. I am not a sold-out Michel Germain fan but I absolutely cannot get enough of French Pear & Queen’s Lilac, which never fails to get happily noticed by everyone. Oddly, at least to me, was how much the men around me responded to Eau Yes! by Confessions of a Rebel. I think, like the long-ago Castelbajac, Eau Yes! wakes the olfactory with a sense of “mmm, what is that different scent?” Carolina Herrera’s Good Girl and Ineke’s After My Own Heart get tons of compliments. My husband especially likes Good Girl and just about anything from Tiziana Terenzi.

  13. Linda Forstmann says:

What fragrance is a close match to Woman by Jovan? It has been discontinued. there are a few on EBAY for around $200. I think the most I ever paid was $19.95. I have been wearing this for at least 35 years. I have gotten so many compliments when I wear this! Men will ask me what I am wearing because they want to buy it for their wives. I enjoyed telling them “Its cheap too!”. women would always ask what I wear. It is mainly Sultry wood, Spicy, Amber, nutmeg and orange blossom. Please tell me you know of something! Thqnks

    1. Yana S. says:

You have anything to say about Calvin Klein? ????

  14. Drema Sanders says:

I just want to say that for me floral scents irritate my sinuses. So I enjoy the aroma of more nutty, woodsy fragrances. I enjoy the smell so much that I spray it (sandalwood) in my home. One last thing for those who wear the strong floral scents (and those scents that linger), please please stop spraying so much of it on your body. It’s killing the sinuses of some of the people around you.

    1. Yana S. says:

Any good fragrance recs for people with the same problem please? ????

  15. Sara Turner says:

LISTEN UP, LADIES! Yves Saint Laurent LIBRE Eau De Parfum! Hands down, at the top of my list. I’ve never in my life had so many people come up to me with compliments and ask me to write down the fragrance on a piece of paper for them! It’s almost constant how often I get approached about it. It’s a wonderful conversation starter, and it brings a smile to my face and everyone that I cross paths with. It’s such a luxurious and alluring fragrance. It’s definitely pricey, but worth every cent in my opinion. Do not walk, RUN!

  16. Merci M. says:

I’m surprised nobody talks about Chanel Mademoiselle????
Been using this for a very long time now and I get a lot of compliments every time

    1. NICOLE says:

MICHEL GERMAIN SeXual NOIR should be on this list. Smells so good. When I used to go out I always had compliments from men and women. CHANEL CHANCE wow, AMAZING And believe it or not, HEAT RUSH by Beyonce smells really REALLY good as well. between all 3 I can’t pick a favorite!

Best part they all are a reseasonable price for a great fragrance .

      1. Wow, you’ve got amazing taste! ???? Sexual Noir, Chanel Chance, and Heat Rush are all fantastic picks—each one brings something special to the table, and if we may add to the skin and your senses. And you’re so right, great fragrances at reasonable prices are the ultimate win! Thanks for sharing your favorites with us.
        Lots of love,
        Marina

  17. Stacy Overly says:

Generally I’m doing the guessing game with the sense that I choose I don’t know what most of them smell like then I just hope that they smell good on me if I don’t like them you’ll replace them is that what you said how would I go about doing that.

    1. saida.Iuldasheva says:

I want sweet strong perfume with chocolate

    1. saida.Iuldasheva says:

Hi Beatrice ???? You must try Signorina Misteriosa by Salvatore Ferragamo ???? ✨ A sophisticated yet sweet fragrance with dark chocolate adding depth will definitely leave an impression ❤️‍???? https://scentbirddev.itcraftlab.com/perfume/salvatore-ferragamo-signorina-misteriosa-584

  19. Amii Hash says:

I’ve found only a few that smells good on me but they are all ones that seem to smell great on everyone who tries them like Ralph by Ralph Lauren, DKNY Be delicious,Gorgio Armani Acqua di Gioia, Dolce n Gabana Dolce, Dolce n Gabana Light Blue, Gucci Guilty, Versace Bright Crystals, and Jimmy Choo Floral. All but the Jimmy Choo are pretty universaly smell amazing on most women

    1. jered.enebong@scentbird.com says:

Hey Amii! It sounds like you’ve got a great lineup of universally loved fragrances! ???? These classics are crowd-pleasers for a reason—they work well for a variety of occasions and complement different styles ???? The Jimmy Choo Floral might be your unique standout! Keep rocking those favorites! ????

    2. JennyPC says:

My most complemented fragrance is Killian’s “Good Girl Gone Bad”. It is my go-to for date nights, events, etc. Before that, it was Coco Mademoiselle. I always got complements on it as well. When I’m only running to the store or something, I like to wear some of the lighter body mist versions of fragrances like BCBG Max Azaria. (That just makes sense to me . . . I don’t need a lasting scent when I’ll only be wearing it for an hour or so. ????‍♀️)

      1. Your fragrance rotation is clearly a chef’s kiss! Good Girl Gone Bad for when you’re owning the night, Coco Mademoiselle for timeless elegance, and body mists for those “just-popping-out-for-an-hour” vibes? That’s strategic scenting at its finest. Honestly, you’ve got this whole fragrance wardrobe thing down to a science—and I’m taking notes.
